Meghalaya lawyers launch indefinite court boycott demanding Attorney General’s removal

Meghalaya's bar association announced on Monday that its members will cease to appear before any court from today onward, demanding the immediate removal of the state's Attorney General. The decision was taken after a meeting of senior advocates who cited alleged partiality and procedural irregularities involving the AG's office.
The lawyers said the boycott will remain in force until the Attorney General steps down or a satisfactory clarification is provided by the state government. They warned that continued inaction could further erode public confidence in the justice system.
District courts across the state have already reported a halt in hearings, with several criminal and civil matters pending. Court officials have appealed to the government to address the concerns promptly to avoid a prolonged disruption of judicial services.
State authorities have not yet issued a formal response, but sources indicate that a meeting with senior legal representatives is being scheduled to discuss possible remedial measures.
