The Meghalaya government has announced a new child protection project in response to a surge of POCSO cases in the East Khasi Hills district.
The state government announced the launch of a child protection project aimed at safeguarding children in the East Khasi Hills district, where recent POCSO cases have highlighted gaps in existing safeguards.
The initiative will involve training local police, social workers and community volunteers, establishing child-friendly complaint mechanisms, and setting up a dedicated helpline to report abuse.
Officials said the project will be implemented over the next 12 months, with regular monitoring and collaboration with NGOs to ensure effective protection and support for victims.
