The Meghalaya government announced a five‑year strategy to combat HIV, pledging to increase healthcare staff and expand antiretroviral therapy centres across the state.
The Health Minister of Meghalaya announced on Tuesday that the state government has rolled out a five‑year plan aimed at curbing the spread of HIV and improving treatment outcomes.
As part of the strategy, the government intends to recruit additional medical and support staff for HIV‑related services across districts.
It also pledged to establish new antiretroviral therapy (ART) centres and upgrade existing facilities to ensure wider access to life‑saving medication.
Officials said the initiative focuses on early detection, sustained counselling and reducing stigma, with the ultimate goal of lowering HIV prevalence in Meghalaya by the end of the plan period.
