The Meghalaya High Court has taken cognizance of recent violence in the state and directed authorities to implement stringent measures.

The Meghalaya High Court has formally noted a spate of violent incidents that have unsettled several districts of the state. In a written order, the bench expressed concern over the escalation of clashes and the impact on public safety.

The court directed the state police and district administration to launch a comprehensive investigation, deploy additional security personnel, and ensure that any perpetrators are prosecuted swiftly. It also instructed the government to review existing law‑and‑order mechanisms and recommend stronger preventive measures.

State officials have acknowledged the court's directives and pledged full cooperation. The police chief said additional forces would be mobilised to vulnerable areas and that a special task force would be set up to monitor the situation.

Legal experts note that the High Court's intervention underscores the seriousness with which the judiciary views communal unrest, and it may set a precedent for more proactive judicial oversight in similar cases across the country.
