The Meghalaya High Court has stepped out of the courtroom to promote clean‑air measures through a public outreach program in Byrnihat.

The Meghalaya High Court announced a new outreach initiative aimed at improving air quality in the town of Byrnihat. The program moves the court's clean‑air advocacy beyond legal proceedings, targeting residents, local officials and schools with information on pollution sources and mitigation steps.

Officials from the court will conduct interactive sessions, distribute educational material and encourage community participation in monitoring air quality. The outreach is part of a broader effort to address rising concerns over particulate matter and seasonal haze that affect health and livelihoods in the state.

Byrnihat, located in the East Khasi Hills district, was chosen due to its vulnerability to smoke from nearby forest fires and vehicular emissions. The High Court hopes the initiative will foster greater public awareness and prompt collective action to maintain cleaner air.

The court has pledged to continue similar programs in other districts, emphasizing that environmental protection is a shared responsibility that extends beyond the courtroom.
