The Meghalaya state administration is stepping up measures to stop illegal crossings from Bangladesh, directing the BSF and police to intensify patrols along unfenced border sections.

The Meghalaya state government announced that it is making progress in curbing illegal infiltration from Bangladesh across its porous frontier. The administration has instructed the Border Security Force and state police to step up surveillance on the unfenced stretches of the 736‑kilometre border, officials said. Additional patrols, night‑vision equipment and coordination with local communities are being deployed to detect and deter cross‑border movement. The initiative comes amid concerns that unchecked infiltration fuels crime and demographic changes in the hill state, prompting a focus on tighter border management. No specific figures on arrests or seizures were disclosed, but authorities expect the intensified vigilance to reduce illegal entries in the coming weeks.
