Meghalaya Deploys Teams to Assam Border Over Voter‑Enrollment Allegations, Says CM Conrad Sangma

Meghalaya's chief minister, Conrad Sangma, said on Tuesday that the state government is closely watching the Assam border after receiving complaints of possible irregularities in voter enrollment. The allegations, which surfaced ahead of the upcoming state elections, claim that individuals from Assam may have been improperly added to the electoral roll in border constituencies.

In response, the Meghalaya administration has deployed a team of senior election officials and police personnel to the disputed stretch of the border. The task force will verify the authenticity of the voter lists, coordinate with the Election Commission of India and ensure that any anomalies are rectified before the final roll is published.

Sangma emphasized that safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process is a top priority for his government. He urged political parties and civil society groups to cooperate fully with the monitoring effort and warned that any proven manipulation would be dealt with strictly under the law.
