Cooks at the PM Poshan kitchen in Meghalaya have announced a strike after their wages remained unpaid for ten years. They demand immediate payment and improved working conditions.
The PM Poshan kitchen, a government‑run food distribution centre in Meghalaya, has become the centre of a labour dispute after its cooks reported that their wages have not been paid for the past decade.
According to the workers, the last salary disbursement was made in 2013, and since then they have received no compensation for the services rendered. The cooks have organised a collective stand‑up to press the authorities for back‑pay.
In a statement released by the kitchen’s staff union, the cooks threatened a strike that could halt food preparation for the entire state’s welfare programmes. They are demanding the immediate settlement of all arrears and a review of the wage‑payment system.
The state government has yet to issue a formal response, but officials have acknowledged the complaint and said they will investigate the matter. The strike could disrupt the distribution of subsidised meals to thousands of families across Meghalaya if it proceeds.
