The Meghalaya State Election Commission has identified 6.51 lakh voters for notice or verification and halted hearings in 14 constituencies pending further review.

Meghalaya's State Election Commission has placed 6.51 lakh registered voters under notice or verification, a step taken to ensure the integrity of the upcoming polls. The move comes after a systematic review of voter lists across the state, which flagged discrepancies that require further scrutiny.

In addition to the voter verification drive, the commission has suspended the hearing process in 14 constituencies. The suspension is intended to allow time for the verification outcomes to be incorporated before any electoral disputes are adjudicated.

Election officials said the actions are procedural and aim to uphold transparency. They have assured political parties and the public that the process will be completed promptly, and normal electoral proceedings will resume once the verification is finalized.
