The Chief Minister of Meghalaya has directed a dedicated study to assess anaemia among mothers in the state, aiming to identify its extent and underlying causes.
Shillong, Meghalaya – The Chief Minister of Meghalaya announced a government‑mandated study focused on anaemia among mothers across the state. The directive aims to map the prevalence of the condition, understand contributing factors, and guide targeted health interventions.
The health department will collaborate with medical experts and research institutions to design the survey methodology, collect data from health centres in all districts, and analyse the findings. Officials said the study will help shape policies to improve maternal nutrition and reduce the health burden associated with anaemia.
The initiative reflects the state’s broader effort to address maternal health challenges and aligns with national goals to lower anaemia rates among women of reproductive age. The results are expected to be presented to the cabinet later this year for further action.
