Chief Minister Conrad Sangma criticised the VPP's stance on the proposed land Bill, urging the party to align its actions with its statements.

Shillong – In a sharp rebuttal to the VPP, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the party should "practice what it preaches" after it challenged the state's new land Bill. Sangma's comments came during a press briefing in Shillong where he defended the legislation aimed at streamlining land ownership and addressing illegal encroachments.
He emphasized that the Bill, which has been in draft form for months, is intended to protect the rights of genuine landholders while curbing unauthorized transactions. "If you raise concerns, do so by following the same principles you advocate," Sangma told reporters.
The VPP had earlier accused the government of sidelining local interests, but Sangma dismissed the allegations as politically motivated. He urged the opposition to engage constructively rather than resort to rhetoric that, in his view, undermines development goals.
No further comment was received from VPP representatives at the time of reporting.
