The Meghalaya government says it has constructed 3,500 kilometres of roads over the past seven to eight years, at an average rate of about 1.1 kilometres per day, according to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
Shillong — Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced that the state’s road network has expanded by 3,500 kilometres in the last seven to eight years. He highlighted that the construction pace translates to roughly 1.1 kilometres of new road each day, a figure he presented as evidence of the administration’s focus on connectivity.
The CM said the accelerated work is part of a broader effort to link remote villages and improve access to markets, health facilities and schools across Meghalaya’s hilly terrain. He noted that the expanded network is expected to boost tourism and trade, sectors that rely heavily on reliable transport routes.
