The Meghalaya state cabinet has approved a further six‑month extension to the term of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, marking the second such prolongation.

The Meghalaya cabinet met and decided to extend the tenure of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) by an additional six months. This marks the second consecutive six‑month extension granted to the council's term.

The decision was taken to ensure continuity of administration in the autonomous district while pending arrangements for a full term are finalised.

State officials indicated that the extension will allow the council to continue its ongoing projects without interruption until a longer‑term solution is implemented.
