Cab unions in Meghalaya have announced a suspension of their agitation against vehicles from Assam, extending the pause until September 10.
Meghalaya’s cab unions have formally halted their ongoing protest against the entry of Assam-registered vehicles, stating that the suspension will remain in effect until September 10. The decision was communicated through a joint statement released by the associations, which cited the need for further dialogue with authorities.
The original agitation, which began earlier this month, had disrupted inter‑state transport services and raised concerns among commuters and commercial operators. By pausing the stir, the unions aim to provide a window for negotiations and to assess any forthcoming directives from the state government.
Transport officials in Shillong have welcomed the move, indicating that a temporary cessation of the protest will help restore normal traffic flow while discussions continue on regulatory measures governing cross‑border vehicle movement.
