The two‑storey residence in Meerut, popularly dubbed the “Blue Drum” after a high‑profile murder case, has remained under police lock since the incident, a period that now totals 19 months. Local authorities kept the premises sealed to preserve evidence and prevent public intrusion.
Earlier this week, the Meerut police and municipal officials announced that the building will undergo a systematic “purification” process, involving thorough cleaning, disinfection and removal of any remaining hazardous materials. The operation is intended to restore the structure to a safe condition and allow the authorities to close the case file.
Residents of the surrounding neighbourhood have expressed relief that the long‑standing eyesore will finally be addressed, noting that the locked house had become a focal point for rumors and trespassing.
