Manipur University has launched a comprehensive program to conserve indigenous fish species, aiming to protect biodiversity and enhance local livelihoods.

Manipur University has inaugurated a new initiative focused on the conservation of indigenous fish species found in the state's rivers and lakes. The program, which began earlier this month, involves scientific surveys, habitat restoration and community outreach to ensure sustainable fishing practices. By protecting these native species, the university aims to preserve biodiversity and create new income opportunities for local fishers. University officials highlighted that the project will also support research and education, positioning Manipur as a leader in ecological stewardship.
