Students in Manipur have appealed to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to press the Union government for the National Register of Citizens before the upcoming census.

Manipur's student community has formally requested Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to intervene with the Union government on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) ahead of the scheduled national census. The appeal, conveyed through a written memorandum, stresses that a pre‑census NRC would help address longstanding concerns over citizenship verification in the state. Students argue that clarity on citizenship status before the census will prevent future legal and administrative complications. The CM's office has acknowledged receipt of the memorandum and indicated that the matter will be discussed with the Centre. No official response from the Union government has been released yet.
