The Manipur government ordered all schools and colleges to remain closed for three days as protests erupted over the demand for a National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Manipur's state administration announced a three‑day shutdown of all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, in response to street protests over the call for a National Register of Citizens (NRC). The directive, issued on Thursday, aims to prevent further disruption and ensure the safety of students and staff amid growing tensions.

Protesters gathered in several districts, demanding that the NRC be implemented in the state. Authorities said the closures would give law‑enforcement agencies time to restore order and address security concerns without affecting academic activities.

The education department confirmed that the suspension would apply from Friday to Sunday, after which institutions are expected to resume normal operations. Parents and teachers were advised to stay informed through official channels.

The move reflects the government's effort to balance civil unrest with the continuity of education, a sector already strained by regional disputes. No injuries or arrests were reported at the time of the announcement.
