The state of Manipur has chosen 25 recent graduates to undergo semiconductor surface‑mount technology training at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
The government of Manipur announced that 25 of its recent graduates will receive specialized training in semiconductor surface‑mount technology (SMT) at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT‑M). The selection process was based on academic merit and aptitude for technical work.
The training programme, scheduled to run for six weeks, will cover the design, assembly, and testing of semiconductor components. Participants will learn to handle advanced SMT equipment and quality control procedures that are in high demand in India’s growing electronics sector.
Experts say that equipping local talent with these skills will help Manipur tap into national and global supply chains for semiconductors, boosting employment and fostering a high‑tech ecosystem in the region.
The selected graduates will report to IIT‑M in Chennai in early October, where they will begin their intensive course and later be eligible for placement opportunities with leading electronics firms.
