A large rally across Manipur has shifted its focus to opposing the recently signed SoO pact, drawing thousands of demonstrators.
Earlier this week, a massive rally was organised across Manipur, attracting thousands of participants who marched through key towns to register their opposition to the SoO pact. The gathering was described by organisers as a decisive stand against a deal they claim undermines regional interests.
The protestors allege that the SoO agreement, signed recently between the state and external parties, could adversely affect local autonomy and economic priorities. They have demanded that the pact be withdrawn and called for a broader public consultation before any such arrangements are finalised.
Security forces were deployed in several locations to maintain order, and police officials appealed for a peaceful demonstration. No major clashes or arrests were reported during the course of the protest.
Analysts note that the rally underscores a growing unease in Manipur over central‑state agreements, hinting at potential political ramifications if the concerns raised are not addressed.
