The women’s wing of the JFD in Manipur has added four more legislators to its ‘No NRC, No Census’ petition, expanding support for the anti‑NRC, anti‑census movement.

Manipur’s JFD women’s wing announced on Thursday that it has secured the signatures of four additional Members of the Legislative Assembly for its ‘No NRC, No Census’ campaign. The move is part of a broader effort by the group to oppose the implementation of a National Register of Citizens and a fresh census, which they argue could marginalise minority communities.

The four legislators, whose names were not disclosed, signed a petition that will be presented to the state government and relevant central authorities. The JFD wing said the added support reflects growing political consensus against the proposed NRC and census measures in the state.

Organisers of the campaign have been touring districts across Manipur, meeting local leaders and civil‑society groups to build a united front. They maintain that a new NRC and census could disrupt the demographic balance and affect the rights of indigenous peoples.

The state government has not yet responded to the petition, but officials indicated that any decision on the NRC or census would be taken after consulting with stakeholders and assessing legal implications.

The JFD women’s wing plans to continue its outreach, seeking further endorsements from lawmakers and community representatives ahead of the upcoming legislative session.
