The Manipur government organized a ceremony to felicitate Olympic weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and other athletes who won medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Manipur's administration convened a formal event to recognize the achievements of Olympic weightlifter Mirabai Chanu alongside fellow athletes who secured medals for India at the 2022 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The ceremony, attended by state officials and sports dignitaries, highlighted the state's commitment to nurturing sporting talent.

Mirabai Chanu, who lifted a record 132 kg to clinch a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, also captured gold in the 49 kg category at the Glasgow Games. Her dual success has made her a celebrated figure in Indian sport, and the state honored her with a special citation and a token of appreciation.

In addition to Chanu, the event paid tribute to other Manipur-born athletes who stood on the podium in Glasgow, including representatives from boxing, wrestling and weightlifting disciplines. Their collective haul contributed significantly to India's overall medal tally at the Games.

State officials used the occasion to underscore the importance of sustained investment in sports infrastructure and training programs, urging young aspirants to emulate the dedication shown by the honored athletes.
