Mandakini River Rises to 30 Feet in Chitrakoot; Helicopter Rescue, CM Yadav Visits

Continuous rain caused the Mandakini River in Chitrakoot to surge to about 30 feet, flooding several localities. Rescue teams are evacuating residents by boat and helicopter, while CM Yadav inspected the damage on site.
The Mandakini River in Chitrakoot has swollen dramatically after days of heavy rainfall, with water levels recorded at roughly 30 feet. The rapid rise has inundated low‑lying neighborhoods, cutting off road access and forcing families to seek higher ground.
State disaster response teams deployed a combination of motorised boats and aerial assets to reach stranded residents. Helicopters from the state’s emergency wing hovered over flood‑hit zones, airlifting vulnerable individuals, while rescue crews used inflatable boats to ferry people to safety along the riverbanks.
Chief Minister Yadav arrived in the district early Tuesday, touring the most affected villages and meeting with local officials. He emphasized that all necessary resources are being mobilised and urged residents to cooperate with rescue personnel.
Authorities continue to monitor the river’s flow and have issued alerts for further rainfall. Relief camps have been set up to provide food, medical aid and temporary shelter to those displaced by the flood.
