A court in Mohali sentenced the accused to seven years in prison and a fine of ₹20,000 for firing at a child during a wedding procession.

A Mohali court has handed down a seven‑year imprisonment term to the individual who fired a weapon at a child during a wedding procession, also imposing a fine of ₹20,000. The verdict follows a criminal trial that examined evidence of the shooting, which took place amid the celebratory march of the bride’s party.

According to the court record, the accused approached the procession and discharged a firearm, striking a young boy who was part of the crowd. The child sustained injuries but survived the attack. Witnesses reported hearing the gunshot and immediately seeking medical assistance for the victim.

The judge found the accused guilty of attempted murder and violation of the Arms Act, leading to the combined sentence of custodial punishment and monetary penalty. The ruling underscores the judiciary’s stance on violent crimes that occur during public celebrations.

Law enforcement officials said the case will serve as a deterrent against the misuse of firearms at social events, urging organizers to enhance security measures for future gatherings.
