The Malshej Ghat stretch of the NH-60 has been shut to all vehicles after a section of the road collapsed, authorities have said.
The 12‑km stretch of NH‑60 that passes through Malshej Ghat in Maharashtra has been closed to all traffic following a sudden subsidence of the road surface.
Local police and the Public Works Department reported that a 200‑meter segment of the highway collapsed, creating a deep trench that posed a serious safety risk to motorists.
The closure was announced on Thursday evening, with authorities urging commuters to use alternate routes via the Satara–Pune corridor. Road‑side signage has been erected to divert traffic and prevent any accidents.
Officials said that a detailed survey is underway to assess the extent of the damage and to plan repairs. The road is expected to remain closed until a comprehensive safety inspection is completed.
