The state government’s Disha initiative has enrolled more than 21,000 children with disabilities across 450 schools, the chief minister announced.
The Maharashtra government said its Disha programme has now reached over 21,000 children with disabilities, spread across 450 schools in the state, according to the chief minister's statement. The figures represent the latest milestone for a scheme launched to promote inclusive education for differently‑abled learners.
Disha provides specialised learning aids, teacher training and infrastructure upgrades to make classrooms accessible. Schools participating in the programme receive assistive devices, customized curricula and regular monitoring to ensure that students receive the support they need.
The rollout covers districts from Mumbai to Nagpur, with state officials coordinating with local education authorities to identify eligible children and schools. The chief minister highlighted that the initiative aims to create a level playing field, enabling disabled students to pursue mainstream education alongside their peers.
