Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that Maharashtra will implement the Uniform Civil Code once the committee report is submitted. The move follows the state's preparation for a uniform personal law framework.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made the announcement during a press briefing, stating that the state government will proceed with the Uniform Civil Code after receiving the report from the appointed committee. He emphasized that the decision is based on the committee’s findings and recommendations.

The Uniform Civil Code aims to replace religion-based personal laws with a common set of civil laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption. Fadnavis said the committee has been studying the implications and feasibility of such a code for Maharashtra.

He added that the implementation will be carried out in a phased manner, ensuring wider consultation with stakeholders. The chief minister reiterated the state’s commitment to social justice and equality before the law through this measure.
