The Maharashtra government has fixed the retail price of dry fodder at Rs 12 per kg and silage at Rs 8 per kg to support livestock farmers during the ongoing drought.

The Maharashtra state government has announced the fixation of prices for essential livestock feed to mitigate the economic impact of the ongoing drought on farmers. The decision aims to ensure that animal husbandry communities have access to affordable feed during the dry season when natural grazing is scarce.

According to the official notification, the price of dry fodder has been set at Rs 12 per kilogram. This rate is intended to stabilize the market and prevent excessive price hikes by intermediaries during the critical period of water scarcity.

Additionally, the government has fixed the price of silage at Rs 8 per kilogram. Silage, being a fermented feed, is a crucial component in maintaining the health and productivity of cattle during drought conditions. By capping these prices, the administration seeks to reduce the financial burden on small and marginal farmers.

This move is part of broader drought relief measures implemented by the state to support the agricultural and livestock sectors. The fixed rates are expected to be enforced in designated markets to ensure transparency and fair trade practices for both suppliers and buyers.
