Following severe floods in Nepal, Maharashtra authorities are locating tourists trapped in the disaster zones.
Severe monsoon-driven floods have inundated large parts of Nepal, disrupting roads and isolating several tourist groups, including a contingent from Maharashtra. The sudden rise in water levels forced many travelers to seek shelter in makeshift camps as bridges and highways collapsed.
Maharashtra's disaster management cell, in coordination with the state police and the Indian embassy in Kathmandu, has launched a tracking operation to locate the stranded visitors. Officials are compiling lists of registered tour groups, contacting families, and deploying liaison officers on the ground to verify the whereabouts of each tourist.
Rescue agencies in Nepal, supported by Indian consular staff, are conducting evacuation drills and arranging transport to safer zones. The state government has pledged financial assistance for the affected families and is monitoring the situation through a dedicated helpline to ensure timely updates.
