The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has suspended the operating licences of four Mumbai kitchens after inspections uncovered cockroach infestation, reused cooking oil and cross‑contamination.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted surprise inspections at four commercial kitchens in Mumbai earlier this week. Inspectors reported a serious breach of food‑safety norms, noting the presence of live cockroaches, the reuse of cooking oil beyond permissible limits, and evidence of cross‑contamination between raw and cooked items.

Based on the findings, the FDA ordered the immediate suspension of the operating licences of all four establishments. The agency has also issued notices requiring the owners to rectify the violations before any possibility of licence reinstatement.

The crackdown underscores the state's intensified focus on enforcing food‑safety standards in the wake of rising consumer concerns. The affected businesses have been instructed to cooperate fully with the authorities and to submit corrective action plans within the stipulated timeframe.
