The Maharashtra Food Safety Authority confiscated a khoya shipment valued at ₹5 lakh, originating from Ahmedabad, citing violations of food safety standards.
The Maharashtra Food Safety Authority (FDA) seized a khoya shipment worth ₹5 lakh from a supplier based in Ahmedabad on Thursday. The consignment was found to have violated several food safety norms, prompting the FDA to confiscate the goods and issue a warning to the importer.
The khoya, a dairy product used in sweets, was packed in containers that did not meet the required labeling and hygiene standards. According to the FDA, the packaging lacked proper temperature control records and the product showed signs of contamination.
In a statement, the Maharashtra FDA said the action was taken to protect consumers from potentially unsafe food items and to uphold the state's food safety regulations. The agency also announced that it would conduct further inspections of the supplier's facilities.
The seizure is part of a broader crackdown on food fraud in the state, with the FDA recently targeting other batches of dairy and confectionery products that failed to comply with safety guidelines.
