The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration conducted raids in Thane and Palghar, confiscating banned pan masala and flavored tobacco products worth Rs 2.69 crore.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) carried out coordinated raids in the twin districts of Thane and Palghar on Wednesday, targeting illegal tobacco and pan masala outlets. Inspectors seized products that are prohibited under state law, including flavored tobacco and pan masala containing nicotine and other harmful additives. The total value of the confiscated goods was estimated at Rs 2.69 crore.

Authorities said the seized items were being sold without the mandatory health warnings and licensing, violating the Maharashtra Prohibition of Tobacco Products (Manufacture, Sale and Distribution) Act. The raid was part of a broader crackdown on unregulated tobacco products that have been linked to rising health concerns across the state.

The FDA has lodged a formal complaint with the local police, and the seized stock will be destroyed under supervision. Officials indicated that further inspections are planned in neighboring districts to curb the illicit trade and protect public health.
