Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis launches district drives to repair schools and health centres

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a statewide initiative aimed at refurbishing aging school infrastructure and strengthening primary health centres. The order calls for each district administration to conduct a detailed assessment of school buildings, classrooms and sanitation facilities, followed by targeted repair work. Simultaneously, health officials will evaluate the condition of government clinics and hospitals, prioritising upgrades to ensure basic medical services are uninterrupted.

The campaign is expected to be rolled out in phases, with the first round of inspections slated to begin within the next two weeks. Funding for the repairs will be drawn from the state’s existing education and health budgets, supplemented by any central government grants that become available.

Officials said the move seeks to address long‑standing concerns about unsafe school structures and inadequate health infrastructure, especially in rural and semi‑urban areas. The CM emphasized that safe learning environments and accessible healthcare are essential for the state’s development goals.

District collectors have been instructed to submit progress reports to the state secretariat on a monthly basis, ensuring transparency and timely completion of the works.
