The state cabinet approved a 10% reservation for ex‑servicemen and announced an expanded drought relief package.
The Maharashtra cabinet met in Mumbai and gave its nod to a new reservation policy that earmarks ten percent of state government posts for ex‑servicemen. The decision, taken after consultations with veteran groups, aims to honour the service of former army personnel by providing them greater access to public‑sector employment.
In the same meeting, ministers approved an expansion of the state’s drought relief scheme. Additional districts that have been declared drought‑prone will now receive increased financial assistance, irrigation support and crop‑insurance benefits. The revised package is expected to reach thousands of farming families struggling with water scarcity.
Officials said the dual measures reflect the government’s focus on both social justice for veterans and agricultural resilience amid a prolonged dry spell. Implementation guidelines will be issued within the next week, and the relief funds are slated to be released in the upcoming budget cycle.
