Private equity and venture capital investments in India are heavily concentrated in two states, with Maharashtra and Karnataka together receiving 57% of the total funding.

NDTV Profit has reported that private equity and venture capital money in India is largely funneled into Maharashtra and Karnataka, which together account for 57% of all PE/VC investments in the country.

The data shows that Mumbai, the financial hub of Maharashtra, and Bangalore, the tech capital of Karnataka, are the primary destinations for investors seeking high-growth opportunities. These two states attract a disproportionate share of capital compared to other regions.

Experts suggest that the concentration is driven by robust startup ecosystems, established corporate presence, and supportive infrastructure in these states. The high concentration also reflects the concentration of venture capital firms headquartered in Mumbai and Bangalore.

Other states such as Delhi, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu receive a smaller slice of the pie, highlighting a regional disparity in access to private equity and venture capital funding across India.
