Madhya Pradesh to Use Underground Robots for Water‑Sewer Inspection After Bhagirathpura Tragedy

The Madhya Pradesh government announced deployment of robotic units to inspect water and sewer pipelines underground following the recent Bhagirathpura incident.
The state government of Madhya Pradesh said it will commission specialised robots to crawl through underground water and sewer lines after the Bhagirathpura tragedy highlighted vulnerabilities in the aging network. Officials explained that the robotic units are equipped with cameras and sensors capable of detecting leaks, blockages and structural weaknesses without the need for manual excavation.
The move is part of a broader safety audit aimed at preventing future incidents that could endanger residents and disrupt essential services. By using automation, the authorities hope to reduce inspection time, lower costs and minimise disruption to local communities.
Funding for the initiative has been earmarked in the state budget, and the first batch of robots is expected to be operational within weeks, beginning with a pilot survey of the affected zone in Bhagirathpura.
