Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav announced that Madhya Pradesh will aim to double its fish production under a newly introduced fisheries policy.
The state government of Madhya Pradesh unveiled a fresh fisheries policy aimed at boosting aquaculture output. According to the plan, the state intends to double its fish production over the coming years, positioning itself as a major contributor to India's seafood sector.
The policy outlines measures such as increased funding for fish farms, modernisation of hatcheries, and training programmes for fishermen. It also seeks to improve supply chain infrastructure, including cold storage and transport facilities, to reduce post‑harvest losses.
Officials expect the initiative to generate employment in rural areas and raise farmers' incomes, while also meeting rising domestic demand for fish protein. The chief minister emphasized that the policy aligns with broader efforts to diversify agriculture and enhance food security in the state.
Implementation will be overseen by the Madhya Pradesh Fisheries Department, which will monitor progress against production targets and report outcomes annually.
