On Dhanteras, the state government will send ministers and MLAs to villages to provide free land‑registry services to residents living on leased houses or plots, converting them into owners under the Swamitva scheme.
The Swamitva registry scheme, launched by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, seeks to grant legal ownership to rural households that currently occupy houses or plots on lease. Under the programme, the state will bear the entire cost of creating a permanent land record, thereby converting informal tenure into recognized property rights.
In a special outreach scheduled for Dhanteras, a team of ministers and elected MLAs will travel to selected villages across Madhya Pradesh. Their task is to identify eligible families and complete the registration process on the spot, ensuring that beneficiaries receive a certified title document without any fee.
The eligibility criteria focus on occupants of rented homes or plots who have been residing there for a stipulated period. Once verified, the government will issue a paki (permanent) registration, which can be used for securing loans, accessing government schemes, and preventing land‑related disputes.
State officials indicated that the registrations will be logged in the existing land‑records portal, allowing real‑time monitoring and verification. Beneficiaries are expected to receive their ownership certificates within weeks of the field visit.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen land security in rural Madhya Pradesh, improve financial inclusion, and reduce the incidence of informal settlements.
