The Madhya Pradesh government has republished the central notification for the 2027 Census, now mandating collection of digital literacy, bank account and mobile number details alongside traditional demographic data.
The state government of Madhya Pradesh has issued a fresh copy of the central notification governing the upcoming 2027 Census. The re‑issued circular clarifies that enumerators will gather a broader set of information than in previous exercises.
Officials say the questionnaire will capture about 40 distinct data points, covering caste, religion, education and employment as usual, and now adding digital literacy status, bank account ownership and respondents' mobile numbers.
The inclusion of digital and financial identifiers aims to provide a more comprehensive picture of the population’s connectivity and economic inclusion, which could inform future welfare schemes and infrastructure planning.
By aligning census data with banking and telecom records, the government hopes to streamline service delivery and improve the accuracy of beneficiary lists for state programmes.
