The Madhya Pradesh government announced a 2% increase in inflation allowance for its employees and pensioners just before Diwali.

The state government of Madhya Pradesh issued a notice that the inflation allowance, commonly known as the "mahngai bhatta," will be raised by two percent for all government employees. The increase is scheduled to take effect from the Diwali festival, providing immediate financial relief as prices continue to climb.

The same uplift of 2% will also apply to pensioners receiving state‑run retirement benefits, ensuring that senior citizens benefit from the same price‑adjustment measure. Officials said the decision aligns with the government's broader effort to mitigate the impact of rising consumer costs on public‑sector workers.

The announcement was made through a press release circulated ahead of the festive season, and the revised rates will be reflected in the next payroll cycle. The move has been welcomed by employee unions, who view it as a timely gesture before the high‑spending period of Diwali.

No additional financial packages were disclosed, and the government indicated that further adjustments would be considered based on future inflation trends.
