The Madhya Pradesh prisons department has entered into a memorandum of understanding with RRU to deliver specialised mental health services to inmates.
The prisons department of Madhya Pradesh has formalised a partnership with RRU by signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at providing specialised mental health care to incarcerated individuals. The MoU outlines a collaborative framework wherein RRU will extend its expertise in psychiatric assessment, counselling and treatment to the prison population.
Under the agreement, mental health professionals from RRU are expected to conduct regular screenings, develop individualized care plans and train prison staff on recognising and managing psychological distress. The initiative seeks to address the growing concern over mental health issues within correctional facilities and improve overall inmate well‑being.
Officials from both sides said the partnership will be rolled out in phases, beginning with pilot programmes in selected prisons before expanding statewide. The move reflects the state government's broader commitment to enhancing health services for vulnerable groups, including those behind bars.
