Police in Shahdol’s Byahri recovered 50 bottles of narcotic cough syrup, seized assets worth ₹10.35 million and arrested two suspects, while a third remains at large.
Shahdol police launched a raid in the village of Byahri and uncovered a large cache of illegal cough syrup. Officers stopped a vehicle and recovered fifty sealed bottles of the narcotic preparation, which is known to be abused for its psycho‑active properties.
In addition to the syrup, the police seized the suspect's car, a mobile phone and other items, bringing the total value of the confiscated goods to approximately ₹10.35 million. The haul underscores the growing market for counterfeit medicinal products in central India.
Two individuals were taken into custody at the scene. A third suspect managed to flee and is currently being pursued by investigators. The arrested persons are expected to be presented before the local court for further legal action.
Authorities said the operation is part of a broader crackdown on the trafficking of illicit pharmaceutical products, which pose serious health risks and are often linked to organized crime networks.
