Madhya Pradesh Opens 15 Gates of Bansagar Dam, Releases 2.65 Lakh Cusec Water into Son River

Following heavy rains in the Son River catchment due to Cyclone Arnob in the Bay of Bengal, Madhya Pradesh authorities opened 15 gates of the Bansagar Dam on Saturday, discharging 2.65 lakh cusec of water into the Son River to manage rising water levels.
The India Meteorological Department reported continuous rainfall in the upper catchment of the Son River after Cyclone Arnob formed over the Bay of Bengal. This led to a rapid rise in water levels at the Bansagar Dam reservoir.
On Saturday, dam officials opened all 15 spillway gates, releasing a total of 2.65 lakh cusec of water into the Son River. The discharge was carried out in a controlled manner to prevent the reservoir from exceeding its safe storage limit.
Authorities said the release was a precautionary measure aimed at averting potential flooding in downstream districts along the Son River, particularly in Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states.
As of the latest update, water levels in the reservoir are being monitored closely, and further gate operations will depend on inflow conditions and weather forecasts.
