Madhya Pradesh Implements Central Ban on Paraquat Dichloride, Orders Recall and Destruction

Madhya Pradesh has moved to enforce the Union government's ban on the herbicide paraquat dichloride, a chemical classified as highly toxic to humans and the environment. The state administration issued an official directive that any remaining inventory of the product must be retrieved from dealers, distributors and farms across the region. The recall order also mandates that the seized quantities be destroyed under controlled conditions to prevent any accidental release. Agricultural officials said the action aligns with national efforts to curb the use of hazardous agro‑chemicals and protect public health. The department will monitor compliance through field inspections and will report progress to the central Ministry of Agriculture in the coming weeks.
