The Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed the FIR lodged against YouTuber Umesh Khan, stating that unbiased reporting of real events is not a criminal offence.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered the cancellation of the First Information Report (FIR) filed against popular YouTuber Umesh Khan of Raisen. The court observed that reporting factual events without bias does not constitute a criminal act and is protected under the freedom of the press.

The FIR, originally lodged by an unidentified complainant, alleged that Khan's video content misrepresented certain incidents. After reviewing the submissions, the bench concluded that the content was a genuine attempt at objective journalism and therefore fell within the ambit of lawful expression.

The judgment reinforces judicial support for media practitioners who adhere to factual reporting standards. Legal experts noted that the decision could set a precedent for similar cases where creators face legal action for covering contentious topics.

Khan, who has a substantial following on digital platforms, welcomed the ruling, emphasizing his commitment to transparent storytelling. The court's decision also underscores the judiciary's role in safeguarding journalistic independence in India.

No further legal action is anticipated against Khan concerning this matter, and the High Court directed the police to close the case file.
