The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that veterinarians are entitled to the same pay and benefits as other medical professionals, affirming their status as ‘the best doctors in the world’.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has upheld a petition seeking parity in remuneration and service benefits for veterinarians, declaring that they should receive the same entitlements as other doctors under the state’s service rules.

The bench observed that veterinarians, who safeguard animal health and contribute to public health, are integral to the medical fraternity and therefore merit equal treatment in pay scales, allowances and pension provisions.

The decision overturns earlier administrative practices that excluded veterinary officers from certain salary components and pension benefits, a disparity that had been challenged by professional bodies.

Legal experts note that the ruling could set a precedent for other states, prompting a review of service rules for veterinary cadres across India.

Veterinary associations welcomed the judgment, calling it a long‑overdue recognition of their role in disease control, food safety and livestock welfare.
