Food inspectors in Devasa confiscated around 600 kg of sweets made with prohibited analog mawa from two shops, sending samples for testing.
The Madhya Pradesh Food Department carried out a surprise inspection in Devasa, a town in the state, targeting two sweet‑shop outlets suspected of selling adulterated confectionery ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival.
Inspectors found that the sweets were prepared using analog mawa – a dairy substitute that is banned for human consumption because of health concerns. Roughly 600 kilograms of the product were seized on the spot.
All confiscated items have been forwarded to a state laboratory for compositional analysis. The department said that, depending on the test results, it will initiate further legal action, which may include penalties and possible closure of the shops.
The raid forms part of a wider pre‑festival crackdown aimed at safeguarding consumers as demand for sweets surges during the holiday period.
