Madhya Pradesh has refused to partner with Rajasthan on the proposed inter‑state cheetah corridor linking Kuno and Gandhi Sagar, putting the Rajasthan‑led project on hold.

The governments of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan had been discussing an inter‑state wildlife corridor that would link the Kuno reserve in Madhya Pradesh with the Gandhi Sagar area in Rajasthan, aiming to create a safe passage for reintroduced cheetahs.

In a recent announcement, Madhya Pradesh officially declined to sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that would have formalised joint implementation of the corridor. The state’s decision leaves Rajasthan’s cheetah‑corridor initiative without the expected cooperation from its neighbour.

Officials said the refusal could affect the budgeting and timelines of the corridor project, though detailed reasons for the pull‑back were not disclosed. The future of the proposed corridor now depends on whether Rajasthan proceeds independently or seeks alternative arrangements.

Stakeholders in wildlife conservation are watching the development closely, as the corridor is considered critical for the long‑term survival of the cheetah population being reintroduced in central India.
