Following a severe road accident near Shitala Mata Temple in Gwalior, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav ordered the removal of the Jansi Road CSP and suspended eight police officials.
The Madhya Pradesh government took swift disciplinary action after a deadly road collision occurred near the Shitala Mata Temple on Jansi Road in Gwalior. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav convened a police department meeting and announced the removal of the senior police officer in charge of the stretch, the CSP of Jansi Road. In addition, eight police personnel directly involved in the incident were suspended pending further inquiry. The decision underscores the state administration's intent to hold law‑enforcement accountable for lapses that may have contributed to the tragedy. Authorities have also launched a separate investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and to recommend safety improvements on the highway.
The suspended officers include senior constables and sub‑inspectors who were on duty at the time of the accident. Their suspension is temporary and they will be subject to a formal inquiry before any final verdict. The CSP’s removal is effective immediately, with a senior officer appointed as interim in-charge to oversee traffic management on the affected route. The government has urged the public to cooperate with the ongoing probe and to adhere to traffic rules to prevent future incidents.
State officials have promised to review traffic enforcement mechanisms across Madhya Pradesh, citing the Gwalior crash as a stark reminder of existing vulnerabilities. The CM’s office indicated that further measures, such as installing additional signage and speed‑monitoring devices, will be considered based on the investigation’s findings.
