Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Approves Split of RGPV into Three Regional Technical Universities, Drops Rajiv Gandhi Name

The Madhya Pradesh cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, approved a proposal to break up Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya into three separate regional technical and skill universities, removing the Rajiv Gandhi name from the institution.
The Madhya Pradesh cabinet gave its nod to a restructuring plan for the state's flagship technical institution, Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV), during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The proposal calls for the university to be divided into three distinct regional entities, each focusing on technical education and skill development.
Under the approved scheme, the existing RGPV will cease to operate under its current name. Instead, three separate regional technical and skill universities will be created, each serving a specific geographic zone of the state. The removal of "Rajiv Gandhi" from the university's title marks a significant branding shift.
In addition to the structural changes, the cabinet announced that retired Indian Administrative Service officer SAI Manohar will be appointed as an advisor to the Chief Minister, providing guidance on higher education and skill training matters.
The decision is expected to decentralise technical education, bring institutions closer to local industry needs, and enhance the state's capacity to produce skilled graduates.
Stakeholders, including faculty and student bodies, have been asked to cooperate with the transition process to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing academic activities.
